Port of Call: San Louis Obispo

This part started out terribly. Our hotel was disgusting. Our dinner was gross. And I lost my favorite navy sweatshirt with sailing knots on it. Then, on Easter morning, things seemed to get a lot better.
This was the oldest mission in California. We went here for Easter mass. Not only was it a great ceremony, they were so welcoming!
This was downtown San Louis Obispo. It was so classic town-y but also very modern.
Downtown San Louis Obispo :]
This was Mongo Bay. It was just outside of San Louis Obispo and the rock formations in this little fishing boat town were unbelievable!
Next stop: Hearst Castle and Big Sur

Port of Call: Santa Barbara

Next on our road trip was my favorite, Santa Barbara. Before we got there, our road trip took us along the many beautiful coasts of California.

This was just a private island. No big deal.
We stopped at a little strawberry farm on the side of the road. Those strawberries were the most amazing strawberries ever!
Santa Barbara Pier!
From the Pier, the beautiful beaches of Santa Barbara and the surrounding waters.
Another view of Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara's old movie theatre
Cupcakery: well that's just the best word ever!
Another California mission
The downtown of Santa Barbara was gorgeous! By far the best downtown of all of the places we went in California! Plus, the shopping was incredible! They had it all!
Good bye, Santa Barbara. Onto San Louis Obispo

Port of Call: Venice Beach and Santa Monica

Venice Beach, right outside of Los Angeles, is by far the tackiest place on the face of the earth. I'm going to be completely honest with you. But it was the funniest experience of the entire trip. So here's the Venice Beach and Santa Monica day:
Santa Monica Pier!
Santa Monica beach!
Best Free People store ever!
The end of Route 66 is on Santa Monica Pier
Santa Monica Pier
Karate classes on Venice Beach
Venice Beach
Told ya it was a surfing type of area
Lifeguard on Duty
Does anything get better than yoga on the beach?

There were so many of these hippie buses in Venice Beach. Let me tell you, some of these people were crazy. I think it has to do with the legal "medical" marijuana.
Yeah, it definitely could have had something to do with the medical marijuana. This guy was telling us we didn't need a prescription from a doctor because they had a "doctor." No, I'm fine thank you.
Muscle Beach!
Next on our road trip: Santa Barbara, aka my favorite place on this entire trip

Port of Call: Cali Beaches

I live on the beach. I've lived in the Ocean State. And we basically only go on trips to places with beaches. So, I've grown to appreciate the qualities of one beach over another and the uniqueness of every beach. No matter where you go, you never have to be far from sand. This time, our toes are in the Pacific. Here's day three of our Cali road trip:
This was Del Mar. We didn't go to the beach, but their downtown was amazing! One thing I noticed about California was that Starbucks were on every corner! That's how Dunkin' is in Rhode Island, but it just added to the feel of California!

This was the Del Mar Library. I am in loveeee with my local library, but this one was just so pretty and welcoming looking!
The very famous, Laguna Beach!
We were walking the streets of Laguna looking for small decor pieces for our new house. It honestly was not my favorite place, but it was beautiful.
This was a small surfing town/cove called Carriffe. It was your typical small surf town filled with little beach houses, surf shacks, and yepp, surfers.
We passed through Newport Beach and drove around on this cool road. The beach was beautiful, but unfortunately, all of my pictures didn't come out very well. Sorry!
"I hopped off the plan at LAX, with a dream and my cardigannnn."
Huntington Beach! The Pier was beautiful and the beaches were awesome!
And then there was L.A. We just passed through because we really had no time to stop and this was one place we had really no desire to see. But, it was definitely very different from New York or Philly. It was all very spaced out and there was definitely a lot of smog.

Well, tomorrow we head to Santa Monica and Venice beach!

Port of Call: La Jolla, California

The next stop on our road trip after we left the lively city of San Diego to drive up along the coast to the beautiful beaches of California. Our first stop: La Jolla. About a half hour out of San Diego sits this beautiful beach town. So, here's day two of our Cali road trip:
I just really thought this was funny. Does your chicken do drugs?
In La Jolla, this wealthy beach town, there was this cave you could walk down.

This was the cave from the outside.
These birds were all over!
Not going to lie, this guy under the umbrella was my idea of the typical California lifeguard. Skim/Swim Sweetie would have LOVED him! She's totally into that surfer boy.
Daisies lined the rocky hills on the coast. Tell me it get prettier than this, I probably won't believe you. Surfer Sister pulled one of these and saved it to press and keep.
Sea lions just relaxed in the hot sun on top of the rocks in La Jolla. They were so adorable!
One thing I loved about Cali was that everything was nature-oriented and exercising was part of everyone's life, not just some. Wouldn't you love to have a kayaking club?
This truly defines the Californian Go-Green idea. Spread this word and we may just start to really live green.
This was a beach just for sea lions. They lined this one beach and people shared information about the local issues with the sea lions having their own beach. You'd be surprised to know people have such a problem with it.
Well, that's La Jolla for you! Catch you tomorrow for our next stop on our road trip!
